A Vacant Property in Frogtown
Date:
6 Sep 2007 - 12:00pm - 6 Sep 2007 - 1:00pm

Saint Paul’s Vacant Properties: Refuse or Reuse?

Certain sections of St. Paul’s Frogtown, North End, West 7th, Summit-University and East Side neighborhoods are inundated with vacant homes. These abandoned properties can negatively impact surrounding property values, public health and safety, the city budget and community morale.

What can be done to mitigate the vacancy problem in St. Paul? How can vacant homes be rehabilitated? When should they be demolished? How will our approach to vacancies impact the historic fabric of St. Paul’s neighborhoods?

Please join Historic Saint Paul for a panel discussion to address these timely questions.
The panelists include:

  • Ed Johnson: Executive Director, West 7th/Fort Road Federation
  • Bob Kessler: Director, City of St. Paul Department of Safety and Inspections (DSI)
  • Steve Magner: Vacant Buildings Supervisor, City of St. Paul DSI
  • Marcia Moermond: Lead Policy Analyst, St. Paul City Council Research
  • Amy Spong: Historic Preservation Specialist, Heritage Preservation Commission

The Preservation Talk will be held in 317 Landmark Center (75 West 5th Street, Saint Paul). The panel discussion is free and open to the public—bring a lunch and join us!
