Laura Yuen of the Pioneer Press reports that recently release plans would “redevelop three city-owned buildings of the old Hamm’s Brewery into a 50,000-square-foot regional hub for Asian-American culture. The $16 million project would include a theater, classrooms, a library and a banquet center.”
Envisioning an Asian Center
However, the plan calls for $5 million in state support. Without state funding, the Asian Cultural Center will seek other sites. If the group secures the necessary financing, the cultural center could open in 2010.
The Hamm’s Brewery plan can be viewed today (October 18, 2007) at the Hubbs Center for Lifelong Learning (1030 University Ave) at 6:00pm.
