Under an agreement announced today, the Schmidt Brewery bottling house will be converted into 100 live-work artist spaces. Dominium Development and Acquisition (developers of the Carleton Lofts in Saint Paul) will purchase the bottling house from Jeffery and Craig Cohen, the current owners and master developers of the Schmidt complex. Construction may begin next fall.

Schmidt Brewery goes from ale to artist lofts

“Dominium has a lot of credibility,” Craig Cohen said Tuesday. “They’ve proven it with the Carleton lofts, which are gorgeous. The idea of artist lofts works well with our overall concept. If we have artist lofts, some residences and a retail component, we’ll have a mini-city.”

An official announcement of the redevelopment plans will be made by City Council member Dave Thune today (October 31*, 2007) at 11:00am at the Schmidt Brewery bottling house.

*Is the bottling house haunted? Today is a good day to find out. Historic Saint Paul’s international headquarters, Landmark Center, may be haunted according to ghost hunters profiled in the Star Tribune. Click here to see images of the ghost hunt.
